The area of action of the project, focuses on a social space of vital importance within the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife, it includes the comprehensive rehabilitation of the pool bar together with the surrounding outdoor spaces.
The pool bar is included in the environment of a protected building designed by the architect Miguel Martín Fernández de la Torre in 1934, even though the element of the pool bar is outside the scope of protection, the project protects the characteristic elements of the original bar, such as the wooden bar, the brass handrail, as well as the position and proportion of the original bar.
The state of the pool bar before the rehabilitation was in a precarious state and with significant sanitary problems due to the lack of maintenance. The element that was used as a premise to lay the foundation for the new pool bar was light. The original bar, even though it was an outdoor space, lacked sufficient natural light; on the other hand, the dark color of the varnish that was applied to all the wooden elements enhanced that darkness.
The project proposes the rehabilitation of the tea wood, eliminating the varnish and exposing the texture of the wood in all its splendor. The original bar is therefore the main element of the entire intervention, around it, all the elements that were introduced were neutral elements that valued the bar element. The exterior covered space flanked by glass elements that protect the space from inclement weather in winter, allow the user to see the marina and the sea, something that did not happen in the original bar.
